La Giostra della Quintana, a recovery in 1946, is based on a horse race that dates back to the seventeenth century and that was to determine the order of priority for a knight of honor in fidelity to the prince or the drafts of the heart.
Among the various hypotheses for the festivities, was accepted without reservation, the one advanced by a member of the association: Emilio De Pasquale. He proposed an equestrian competition in period costume to be organized in conjunction of the Carnival, highlighting the possibility of finding a holiday in this event of communion and harmony among all people.
La Giostra della Quintana is documented since the mid-1400s, and traditional costumes have always been made by tailors in the town inspired by the fashion of the time, but supervised by an art to which it is entrusted with the selection. Sumptuous fabrics, velvets, lace geometric stiff collars and wide cloaks draped at the shoulder and falling on his right arm, are the true protagonists of the festival, and add to the parade pomp and elegance. Foligno, during the Palio della Quintana, revived the atmosphere of a jousting tournament of 600. Ten riders representing districts Ammanniti, Badia, Cassero, Castrastagna, Bianca Croce, Giotto, La Mora, Morlupo, Pugilli, Spada, addressing the municipal stadium, in a race of high tension and spectacular.
In three subsequent sessions riders in saddle to imposing steed must hit with a spear rings ever smaller diameter hanging from the arm of a wooden statue depicting a warrior of the seventeenth century. On the evening of the competition, a procession of 600 people parade through the streets of the city accompanied by choreography and music while in the Baroque palaces and streets adjacent to the main square, you can taste the ancient recipes of the seventeenth century Umbrian dishes.
